Football Announces Austin Peay Game Time

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics announced Thursday that the football home opener against Austin Peay on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 inside Nippert Stadium will kick off at 7 p.m. ET.

Other home game times and any television opportunities will be announced at a later date.

The season opening meeting between the Bearcats and Governors marks the fifth time the two schools have met on the gridiron with UC leading the all-time series 4-0. The last matchup occurred on Sept. 4, 1993, a 42-10 UC victory inside Nippert Stadium. All four of the previous meetings, dating back to 1985, have taken place in Cincinnati.

The Bearcats, led by second-year head coach Butch Jones, return 18 starters from the 2010 squad, including unanimous First-Team All-BIG EAST quarterback Zach Collaros (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville), as well as a trio of Second-Team All-BIG EAST honorees in running back Isaiah Pead (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor Academy), linebacker J.K. Schaffer (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), and wide receiver D.J. Woods (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville).

Sheakley's generosity boosts UC

A nice article on one of our biggest supporters. Wish we had more of him.

Larry Sheakley has been a major donor to UC, at the former Jefferson Avenue Sports Complex (now the Sheakley Activities Center) and as a permanent commemorative of Mr. Sheakley's generosity to Varsity Village, the lawn area which will lead into the new Richard E. Lindner Athletic Center is called Sheakley Lawn, in honor of Larry's father, Raymond D. Sheakley, a 1949 graduate of UC's College of Business.
