The Bearcat football family added another Super Bowl ring this past season. New Orleans Saints linebacker Troy Evans played a major role in helping his team win a championship, serving as a catalyst and captain for special teams.

On Wednesday morning he paid a visit to the UC football team during their daily workout and told them that with hard work and believing in each other that they could win a 3rd straight Big East crown and a national title. Coming from a Super Bowl champ, he words carried a great deal of strength with the current squad.

After graduating from Lakota High School in Cincinnati, Troy was a walk-on at UC his freshman year. He went on to a successful career as a Bearcat and went on to lead the team in tackles in his senior season.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by St. Louis in 2001, Evans will be starting his 10th season in the NFL this year.

Test Time

Mention the word "testing" on a college campus and very few students get excited, unless they are a member of the UC football team and the testing is taking place in the weight room. The winter quarter is over, from a training point of view, and this past week the players were tested to see how much they have improved over the past 5 weeks.

Tailgate of the Year!

I've got to give a shout out to my friends at Sigma Sigma and Scotty O for being named the 2009 Tailgate of the Year! I have no idea what this award entails, but I can attest to the effort that went into it. They have a set-up that we’re working on getting to, but if very impressive in scope and the amount of people there. You can check out their award at http://www.tailgatermonthly.com/ and read the article in the magazine article in the online edition at http://www.tailgatermonthly-digital.com/tailgatermonthly/20100102?u1=promo#pg1. Way to go Scotty!

Introducing Bearcat Lair

The very best coverage of every and all things UC has gone independent! Tim Adams and Todd Cunningham have started their own site dedicated to covering all UC sports year-round. Of course most of this doesn't come free and to get most of the scoop on recruiting, interviews, in-depth reporting, and player profiles you have to pay a membership fee (very reasonable, less than a subscription to the Enquirer and 10 times the coverage. Even if you can't afford a membership the free boards are a great place to discuss UC sports with other fans. Email me if you have any questions! armybearcat@gmail.com

The Cuse on UC

I know UC BB fans are restless. I know we're used to 20-25 wins a season under Hugs. But much like our FB record would have been different playing in the SEC this year our BB record reflects playing in the SEC BB equivalent. Am I happy? No. Do I want to see more improvement and heart? Yes. Do I think we have a better option at coach right now? Think long and hard about that before you call for a change, you might just get what you're asking for and not like it.

“The league is so difficult. It is much harder this year than it was last year because the bottom teams are better. Pitt is much better than people thought. I think Louisville will come back and make a run. I think Georgetown and Villanova are good, and UConn has enough to make a run. We had two or three at the top last year, but we have more down the line this year. It is very difficult to even think about the next game or the one after that.”

“It’s hard. It is really hard. In this league, if you are in the bottom and climb, you have to climb over eight people. And if you climb over that many, you are still in fifth place. At the end of the day, we are still going to beat each other up and still have really good teams with a lot of losses. Just like last year. I think Notre Dame and Georgetown would have been fine had they not gotten beaten up so much. We lost three games last year, and we were the top eight teams in the country. That is what it means when you play those kinds of situations. You have to keep playing and try to get better as you go along. Be ready at the end of the year to play well. If you can survive through this league, you have to play really good basketball.”

2010 Baseball Schedule Posted

Season tickets are also available. Visit http://www.gobearcats.com/tickets/cinn-tickets-baseball.html for details, but bottom line is UCATS members can buy season tickets for $10 for the SEASON! We only make a couple games a year, but at 67 cents or so per game you can't beat the deal to just buy the whole thing. I'm sure those numbers of season ticket holders help in recruiting as well.

UC Bearcats' recruiting holding steady

With as little time as he's had on the job, this is very good news. Next year will be the telling year on how well he recruits, but I'm happy so far! http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100202/SPT0101/302020072/1064/UC+recruiting+holding+steady
