Sept 11th UC vs. Indiana St. Tailgate

12 days till tailgating bliss! Here's the first update and info for the Noon game:

1. Tailgate start time is 8:30AM. If you beat us there--you da man.
2. Our main breakfast dishes will be waffles hot off the iron and goetta breakfast sandwiches off the grill. Feel free to bring sides as you see fit and sign up for Chris' eInvite to help us manage who and what's coming/how much to bring.
3. Yes, I'll have a keg. Did you expect anything less? Full, big, and cold.
4. Donations are welcome and these are simply guidelines; more or nothing are both accepted with the same smile. If newbies ask we recommend $5 per person to drink, $10 to eat and drink unless you helped provide the food/sides, in which $5 works fine.
5. Ahh, the after prom, er tailgate. When the final cannon fires we'll be back at our spots with TV's on, corn hole being tossed, tents up, and beer flowing. Depending on how many people are there we may burn some burgers and dogs or have everyone chip in for pizza delivery. As corny as it sounds, it will be a game day decision.
6. As always, maps to where we are and tailgate info can be found by clicking the "tailgate" tab on the lower left of the page.

As a quick note, this game is being sponsored by the US Army and ROTC. There will be military vehicles on display, a helo, probably a flyover and/or jumpers, and you'll probably see some cadets, cadre and their families at the tailgate. Go Army and GO CATS!

Brent Celek TD Reception vs. Rutgers 2006

Before every season it's worth noting what started it all. From one of UC's best players, from the most memorable game, to what put us on the map. A bunch of local kids who went unrecruited from "bigger" schools (at the time). Never forget what is possible.

Anyone Else?

Excited to see Zach play this year?

WHERE: 2600 block of Short Vine in Corryville

WHY: With the construction of the UC practice fields underway, many UC football fans needed a tailgate area to call home. The Short Vine Business Association and the Uptown Consortium created a unique and exciting street event called the Bearcat Block Party. The event includes tailgate staples like music, food and drinks. Area lots surrounding Short Vine will be open for attendees to park their cars. Then, partygoers can take a short walk or hop on a convenient shuttle to the festivities.

DESCRIPTION: For each UC home game, the 2600 block of Short Vine will shut down two hours before the game and two hours following, for a street festival featuring live entertainment, food and beverages, and a few surprises. All Short Vine favorites along the block will also be open for business. Additionally, the Block Party will broadcast the game so attendees won't miss a minute of the action.

Tailgate Warning Order

Lots of updates coming and the first tailgate info will be posted soon. Here's some housekeeping items.
1. If you plan on attending a couple or more games this season it is very helpful if you sign up for Chris's eInvite by emailing her at chriscarleton@hotmail.com. By doing so, and then by accepting the invite each game and putting down if you're bringing sides, donating and not bringing, etc it really helps us manage how much beer and food to buy so we're not stuck with a ton of extra.
2. We're expecting a ton of people this year as UC has sold over 22,000 season tickets and the friends of friends list of people attending our tailgate has grown to immeasurable amounts. Everyone is always welcome: friends of yours, family, visiting fans, etc. Since I'm asked every year we'll publish recommended donation amounts for those coming. Nothing is mandatory, but help is greatly appreciated. Besides the kegs and a large portion of the food, our tailgate spots cost us triple what we paid last year. Winning has it's price I suppose, but suffice to say we won't turn down assistance. This is as good a time as any to thank the few supporters of mine who give above and beyond to help me afford my spot, without their assistance I simply couldn't do this. Thank you.
3. We're going to attempt to have everything at our tailgate you could need. Beer on tap, grill food, serving stuff, tables, chairs, footballs, cornhole, TV's, heaters, etc. About the only thing we need are sides to compliment the meal. If/when you bring something I recommend a throw away container that you won't miss when we head to the game. There is so much stuff, and we realize you're parking far away, we'll have it all and what you bring is best if you don't mind losing it in the shuffle.
4. The Tailgate. We've already got one Noon game. We're bound to have more. Besides setting up early, we plan on partying after the game as well if the weather holds. Plan on making a day out of it if you want. We paid for it, we're going to use it!
I'll probably update the first tailgate info sometime this weekend or shortly thereafter. We're 10 days from the season opener and 17 from the home opener! Let me know if you have any questions and go CATS!

Cronin talks Canada trip

Not sure if you're aware, but UC BB is playing in a pre-season Canada tourny this year. Big advantage is the extra practices ahead of the normal season. Let's hope we break the 20 win mark and make the NCAA this year. Been too long....

Can You Handle Me?

Best Colleges 2011

Not in football, in academics. I don't put a ton of weight into the US News & World Report popularity contest, but in the end we just jumped from a Tier III to a Tier I institution, now ranked 156th, with an acceptance down to 67%, and a freshmen class that is the biggest ever. We're taking less kids by % than either OSU or Miami (yes, that Miami). Think about that for a second. We went in 10 years from basically a unranked commuter school to almost top 150 Tier I institution with 72% of students living within walking distance of campus AND have a back to back BCS football team. If anyone 10 years ago predicted this send me your lottery numbers!! Link here.

Represent the C

When no one is looking. From my Army friend stationed in Iraq, UC grad, and diehard fan. You are what you do when no one knows.

"Starting to get excited and I wish I could be there for the whole season but I still think I will make the USF game.

Oh and by the way one of the Soldiers in my unit recently took leave back to the Cincy area. He was catching a flight out of Atlanta in uniform with another Soldier and as he walked through 1st Class on his way to coach seats, he noticed a couple of guys sitting there with UC shirts on. He said it was nice to see a familiar sight. Before the plane took off the flight attendant came back and asked both of them to come up to first class as the two gentlemen in UC shirts insisted that they switch seats. My Soldier initially declined but the attendant said the UC guys insisted. So my Soldier and another Soldier got to ride first class to Cincy. Turns out it was Butch Jones... I don't care if he can coach or not, he's got my respect!"

News & Notes

I don't often post email/letters I get or read, but I think this sums up well how impressive UC's rise in support has been. Do we need more, of course? But we've come a long way baby! From our Asst AD in charge of marketing:

"Our season tickets are already sold at a record pace and with 40 days left until our home opener we are on pace to sell out for the season. Revenue wise we have already booked more football revenue for the 2010 season as of July 30 than we did for the total 2006 and 2007 seasons - COMBINED. As noted above the biggest need for UC Football at this point in time is higher end seating options, enhanced amenities for fans (parking options, tailgating, etc...) and of course, more general seating to market to our expanding fan base.

Our sales plan had a significant media push from March-May, and picked up again last week and will run through the Oklahoma game, which is our biggest opportunity to sell group tickets this year. With more season tickets sold the amount of group opportunities will be limited to games where our opponents turn in tickets in the weeks and days leading up to the games. Keep in mind that these seats are not in the prime areas of Nippert Stadium, so the best way to get a solid seat for the season is to buy now, before we are sold out.

The entertainment dollar is tighter this year than in any sales season out of the past decade - maybe longer than that, as the Reds are in the hunt for a playoff spot and the Bengals are signing big names. This fact itself makes the sales numbers achieved for the 2010 season truly extraordinary for UC Football, which is still an emerging brand which has embraced three head coaches in the last 5 years. Brand continuity leads to winning which translates into consumer confidence. UC has been able to expand the base in 5 straight sales cycles with the leadership of the program changing. Not many brands out there can match boast these results in the face of such change. "

"We are in the Best Shape Ever!"

2010

Has our tailgate spots reserved again. Bottom line, the cost was more than 3 times what we paid last year. Donations are going to be more than welcome both before the season to help defray the cost and during the season. Thanks for everyone's support and can't wait for all 7 home games this year!
